After this you'll be able to run a quick phone test that checks what a speed score can't: whether a customer can actually reach you.

A speed tool grades how fast the page loads. It doesn't check whether anyone can understand the offer, find an answer or send the form. A page can load before you blink and still hide the phone number under a paragraph about company values. The speed tool is thrilled. Gold star. The customer would just like to call you.
Not the desktop at the office. Turn off Wi-Fi if you can, so it feels more like a customer standing in a driveway.
Call, book or ask for a quote. Write it down before you open the page.
Then answer three questions. Did I get the offer? Did I find an answer to my question? Could I send the form, or tap to call?
Scrolled back up, zoomed in, hunted for a button. Those are your fixes.
Move the number up, shorten the form, answer the common question earlier. Change one thing at a time and compare calls and form sends before and after.
A word on heatmaps, those colorful maps of where people tap. They can help. They're also not psychic. They point at a question. They don't read the visitor's mind, and they don't prove a redesign works.

Calls and form sends before: ______ after: ______Northside Drain Co. has a drain-cleaning page with a top speed score. The owner, Priya, runs the phone test from her truck.
Offer: clear. "Same-day drain cleaning" is right at the top. Answer: she wants to know if they come out on weekends. It's in an FAQ near the bottom. Form: fine, but the phone number only shows up in the footer, under "Our Values."
Her one fix: a tap-to-call button at the top. Next round, she moves the weekend answer up. The speed score doesn't move either time. Whether the fixes helped shows up in calls and form sends, not in the score.
Because nobody's calling to say, "Couldn't find your number, but wow, that speed score."
