In new Outlook or Outlook on the web, you start a new mail, select the Copilot icon in the toolbar above the message, pick Draft, type what you want and select Generate. That's straight from Microsoft's page on drafting an email with Copilot in Outlook. You can change the length or tone or try again, and when you like it you select Keep it, edit it and send. Classic Outlook and Outlook for Mac call it Draft with Copilot, and on a reply in new Outlook you can use Help me reply instead.
Now, the part I care about is the reading. I don't want Copilot promising a Friday install to fix the one I already missed, so I tell it right in the prompt not to promise any new date, price or install time, and to leave a blank wherever I need to fill one in. Two snags to know about: Microsoft says Draft with Copilot doesn't work on plain text emails in new Outlook and on the web, and on a Mac you need the latest Outlook. My Copilot follow-up guide for Outlook has the drafting prompt I'd use, word for word.
