Questionthe short answer

How do you figure out what to post on Instagram?

By Eric Snyder, founderUpdated Oct 31, 2026

The fastest way to figure out what to post on Instagram is to find the reels in your niche that beat their own account's usual numbers, then copy the shape of them, not the video. Raw views lie. A huge account doing big numbers might have had a slow day, but a small account doing ten times its normal found something you can use. The ig-viral skill ranks every reel by its views divided by that account's median, and anything over about three times normal counts as a signal.

So here's how I'd do it. Pick six to twelve accounts within about ten times your size: a few in your trade, a few with the same customers in a different trade, and a couple of big ones just for format. Open them in your own browser, write down each reel's views, the account's typical views and the first line, and let Claude rank them and name the hook formula. Do it monthly, not daily. And don't hand anything your password or run a scraper, because Instagram's terms ban collecting info in an automated way. I run something like this for our own company, because I'd rather copy what already worked than guess. Here's the full Claude setup that tells you what to post.
